Classic Novel

This course is designed to help Shakespeare “rookies” stick their toes in the Shakespearean water. The aim is to familiarize students with Shakespeare’s language and characters and discover ways to "decode" the imagery and poetry and assist them in gaining a sense of ease and comfort with Shakespeare’s plays.

We’ll sample text from many of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, working with small chunks of text and short scenes. Students will also gain a historical understanding of how Shakespeare’s theatrical world differed from theater as we know it today.

This will be an "on-your-feet" class in which students will familiarize themselves with Shakespeare’s plays and poetry in an active, straightforward way. They don’t call them “plays” for nothing!
