Giving thanks. We paused from our work, and collected these thoughts.
From Bill and Cynthia
To the exceptional faculty who share their time with our students, we say heartfelt thanks. There is no community at A Step Ahead without you. Because of you, children learn to use their voices. Children learn to believe in themselves. You change lives.
We asked our faculty for their thoughts and traditions at this time of gratitude. We included a few of their responses below. As you read and reflect on this season of giving thanks, once again we give thanks for you.
Giving thanks and enjoying traditions
Mrs. Crater was quick to give thanks for her students, and share a cherished tradition. “I love spending Thanksgiving with extended family! Then the next day, we go to the mountains to pick out our Christmas tree. It’s a wonderful time of year!”
Mrs. Kushner likes giving thanks and looking at quotes she finds inspirational. Her pick for this month: “It is our choices….that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” ~ J.K. Rowling
And then, Mrs. Anderson shares that her family had a slightly unusual Thanksgiving dinner last year. “We skipped the typical turkey and had a roast duck! Thanksgiving also marked the beginning of our holiday baking. My dad was always on a quest to create the perfect sugar cookie.” We wonder whether turkey or duck or something quite new will be on the menu this year?
Bill and Cynthia like to retreat to the North Carolina mountains with their family for a few days of fires in the fireplace, traditional Thanksgiving foods, and marathon Monopoly sessions. This year, Bill and Cynthia plan to hike the 13-mile Tanawha trail on the day after Thanksgiving, assuming the weather and Cynthia’s knees cooperate. Cynthia wants to enjoy a lot of her mom’s apple crisp and then hike off the calories!
In addition to giving thanks for faculty and families, we also want to invite you to contact us if you have a student who might gain confidence and skills by working with a private tutor. We love to listen and help you think through options for your family, whether that includes our work at A Step Ahead, or other resources. There is no charge for this free consultation, and no obligation at all. We’re here to help.
