TRC workshops are coming soon!
A Step Ahead is pleased to offer small group reading and writing workshops this summer. Classes are designed to focus on one of the biggest challenges faced in elementary schools – equipping students to master TRC (Text Reading Comprehension) written responses to the reading comprehension questions.
TRC workshops for rising 1st and 2nd grade students
TRC workshops for rising 1st and 2nd graders will use age-specific materials to master comprehension skills. Students will be guided in developing strategies for writing complete and coherent responses. Books and activities will be geared to different reading levels based on benchmark goals for beginning the next grade.
TRC workshops for rising 3rd grade students
Rising 3rd graders will do a chapter book study in their TRC workshops, with students reading assigned pages during the week and answering thinking questions on their own. Students will review comprehension skills, discuss how topics relate to the book, and practice grade-appropriate writing responses. The class will focus on a fiction book but will also include some non-fiction articles, giving students exposure to both types of reading and writing responses.
Each session will be 55 minutes in length, with classes no smaller than 3 students and no larger than 4 students.
Dates for the course are June 16, 23 and 30; July 7, 14 and 21; and August 11. Times are as follows:
- 9:30-10:25am – rising 3rd graders
- 10:30-11:25am – rising 1st graders
- 11:30am-12:25pm – rising 2nd graders
Registration for the 7-session workshop series is $140 – only $20 per session!
Please note that we cannot refund missed sessions, and we reserve the right to modify the format of the TRC workshops, based on responses to these workshops. If we have availability, we will accept late registrations, but why take the chance? Inquire or register today!
