New faculty! Meet Joel Eisenhofer

We are thrilled to welcome Joel Eisenhofer as new faculty at A Step Ahead!

Joel joins us to work with our older students in SAT/ACT test preparation, biology, psychology and most areas of mathematics.  He will also tutor in other subjects as needed.

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Joel attended Davidson College and graduated in 2012 with a B.S. in Neuroscience. He followed his undergraduate work with a M.S. neuroscience in 2016 from the Baylor College of Medicine. He has taught biology at the high school and college levels and looks forward to working with students individually!

What’s fun with our new faculty member?

Joel loves learning obscure and often-forgotten skills like blacksmithing, Mongolian throat singing, and shifting without a clutch. Really! He cautions that we should not attempt any of those tasks without guidance. Of course!

Back in high school, upon reading “Beowulf” for the second time, he fell in love with the epic poem. Then, when the 2007 film rendition was released, he teared up and left the theater because of how terrible the film was.

Joel’s friends nicknamed him the ‘polar bear’ due to his love of the cold, Coca-Cola, and his tendency to hibernate.

Here’s some advice to use when meeting our new faculty member

Joel warns us that he will never stop talking about the brain as long as you continue to show interest in the topic. So consider yourself warned if you bring it up!
